15 year old Cori "Coco" Gauff @ Wimbledon 2019

I heard about Gauff after she beat Venus Williams in the first round, but hadn't seen the matches. I saw pretty much the last set of her match today against the Slovenian girl and she is a fighter. So much heart and talent. Her moves on the court are of a veteran and she took control time after time when many would have backed down. Very good match to watch today.

I hope she wins it all.

The 15-year-old who made international headlines with her first-round upset of her childhood idol Venus Williams is now just one victory away from the quarterfinals at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club.

Her fourth-round opponent will be Romanian Simona Halep on Monday. Halep is currently the world's No. 6-ranked women's singles player and won last year's French Open. Despite the rough start on Friday, dropping the first set, and later facing two match points, Gauff said she never lost confidence and fed off the underdog-loving Wimbledon crowd."

Cori Gauff, also known as Coco Gauff (born March 13, 2004), is an American tennis player. In 2017, aged 13, she became the youngest ever finalist in the girls' singles event at the US Open.2 She won the Junior French Open in 2018, the second-youngest to do so. She is also the youngest female to qualify for a Grand Slam tournament main draw, and the youngest player overall to qualify for the main draw at Wimbledon.

Gauff started playing tennis in 2010 at age six. She grew up in Atlanta, but moved to Delray Beach, Florida to have better opportunities to train in tennis.3 Her father played basketball at Georgia State University and her mother was a track and field athlete at Florida State University.4 She has two younger brothers.3 Gauff is home-schooled by her mother, a former teacher.4 Her father is her head coach.5 She is nicknamed "Coco".[6]

Gauff has trained with Gerard Loglo at the New Generation Tennis Academy in Delray Beach. In 2015, when she was 11, she was selected by Serena Williams's coach Patrick Mouratoglou as part of his Champ’Seed foundation and trained with him in Nice, France.74 In October 2018, Gauff signed her first multi-year sponsorship contract, with New Balance.8 In March 2019, she announced a multi-year sponsorship agreement with Italian food company Barilla, which also sponsors Roger Federer.8

2019edit At the Miami Open, Gauff recorded her first WTA match-win against Caty McNally.10 In the second round she lost to Daria Kasatkina. In June, Gauff won her third qualifying round at Wimbledon to reach the main draw, becoming the youngest player to qualify for Wimbledon in the Open Era.1112

She has trained at the Mouratoglou Academy in France since she was 10, and is expected to earn $1 million this year in sponsorships from New Balance, racket maker Head and the pasta company Barilla. In her Grand Slam tournament debut at Wimbledon on July 1, 2019, Gauff defeated five-time champion Venus Williams in straight sets.
