46% said "what bonus?!"

re: the poll question "Were you happy with your 2011 bonus?"

Obviously the #'s were skewed some from college students answering, but still that # is A LOT higher than I expected. Was the bonus season really that harsh? What do you think the actual # would be if only those employed answered?

i think the question should have been qualified with "if you work in banking/PE".

i'm in F500 finance, and after they deducted taxes, as well as a 401k/equity deduction (about 30%) i was left with little over $200.

yes, this is embarassing, probably shouldn't have admitted to that.

You'd have done better with a Jelly of the Month Club enrollment:

so um... the bonus was like 1k?

It's all about the Boutiques: I just transitioned to PE, but my 2011 banking bonus was 180% of base. Yes, 180%. That's much higher than what the top bulge bracket bank paid (where I was prior to the boutique). And if I told you the name of the boutique M&A firm I worked for, you wouldn't even know it. Why did we do so well? Emerging markets.

Leave your big banks, they'll work you to the bone and won't pay you (from personal experience). Start looking at the most obscure boutiques (if you want to do banking).

I've bitched about this to Patrick before, so he knows, but it is stupid that you have to vote in order to see poll results.

^^^ just under 1k. keep in mind that this doesn't include restricted stock units, which came out to another $1100-1200.
