Al Jazeera Buys Al Gore’s Current TV

Al Jazeera has bought Al Gore’s progressive media corporation. For those of you who thought the programming on that channel couldn't get any worse, think again.

Btw, Al Jazeera English is a pretty decent channel. I don't find it to be that biased either; both John McCain and Hillary Clinton have endorsed Al Jazeera. Way, way more informative than the American news networks, especially for international events. Have only briefly watched Current though; seems like a more liberal and lower quality MSNBC.

AJ had a lot of trouble with expanding in the US market and getting on major cable/satellite providers because people see "Al" in the name and their weird logo and think the channel's related to terrorists or something...There's still a lot of anti-Arab bias in the US. Since Current is already carried on major service providers, this allows AJ to expand their reach in the US, although it looks like Time Warner Cable is dropping Current due to the deal. Will be interesting to see how this pans out.

I also agree with newspeak. Al Jazeera is much more moderate and informative than crap like FOX, which should be embarrassing to anyone living in the US, citizen or not.

Dunno who advised on this. I agree that american outfits like fox, msnbc, etc. are crap and read more like blog posts than serious journalism, and that Al J is relatively objective concerning issues not involving Islam/Israel/arab spring, but the fact that is owned by a Arab state makes it a non-starter. Not surprised time warner preemptively dumped it.
