Am I being ripped off by the landlord?
I will be renting a bedroom with a private bathroom in a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom unit in a co-op building in Midtown Manhattan. The live-in landlord wants to charge me $300 per month for my share of the utility, internet, cable, and cleaning fees. The $300 per month includes the WiFi, twice per month household cleaning service she hires, electricity, water, cleaning tools and supplies, and cable. Is this a reasonable price to pay for these services?
You’re mainly paying for the cleaning service, which is admittedly pretty expensive in NYC.
Your share of the WiFi should be about $35, share of gas / electric should be $50 or so, water (though most don’t have to pay it) probably another $50. Maybe you offer to pay $125-150 and skip the clean?
Just ask for the $300 broken down into items if you really think it's that far off
