Am I the only one who likes to travel alone?

Whenever I see most people my age go on a trip they always go with a large group of friends, but for me I enjoy traveling alone way more. I feel like when I travel with friends I’m stuck with doing whatever they want to do and unless we all have similar hobbies, I’m not able to pursue certain things on vacation that I can do while I’m alone. I feel like vacationing alone is way better with less drama and more freedom. There’s a sense of being able to take everything in and appreciate the atmosphere more when I’m alone. I also get to pick wherever I want to go instead of having to pick from whatever countries my friends deem acceptable.  I think since I’m single it makes traveling alone much more fun, but maybe if I was married then it would be different. Does anyone else feel the same?

I am in the same boat with regard to traveling alone. You can set your own pace, journey, program etc. Do what you want to do (and eat) and do not need to compromise (obv if you are traveling with your gf/wife it is smth different). Usually, I am traveling with friends if certain activities (e.g. skiing) are involved. If traveling to countries (lets say Cambodia), I tend to do this on my own as I usually assimilate myself into the local culture a la  A. Bourdain and avoid touristy/Western places. Just do what you feel mostly comfortable/enjoy, there is no need to justify yourself to others.

I love travelling alone, you can do what you want, think clearly about your life, goals etc. I always feel mentally refreshed after a solo trip.

Going with a friend or friends has it;s benefits to, although I only go with people who like pretty much the same stuff as me and are upbeat and stuff, people who complain a lot are fucking drain.

I do a combination of the two. If there are certain activities/countries where I know I’ll have an absolute experience (literally sitting next to an airplane waiting to skydive as I type this), then I’ll travel alone. In general I have more fun with other people though because of the memories and bonds I can create so I’ll then go link up with them later on.

Do what you think will leave you with the least regrets. I enjoy the company of my friends but if I think I’ll miss out on a life changing experience, then I’ll run solo.

for me it depends on the purpose of the trip - if I need a break from people or have some things on my mind that I want to think through I love solo trips. If I just want to have a ton of fun, I like traveling with others. My only problem is I feel like traveling with others adds a lot of other variables that can make the itinerary more complicated. I’m actually going on a solo trip soon so I’m super excited!

It really depends on the nature of the trip, which friends/people you're traveling with, and where you're going. Generally, I like traveling alone too since I get to to plan my itinerary how I like it and don't have to deal with unnecessary bullshit. However, if you're going in a small group with your really close friends, that is usually the best imo (best deal to get a good airbnb/hotel, split other costs, have a group at the bars). If you're going with a large group, it can be really unwieldy, which is where traveling alone is best.

Some countries are also better to visit alone. Japan is an amazing place to visit alone for example (super safe, amazing food, great public transit, etc.).

The best alternative I think if you really like to travel alone but miss the group dynamic is visiting someone in another city/place. You can crash on their couch for free/token gift, that person usually knows the best local places that aren't overpriced and aimed at tourists, and usually there's a good chance that they haven't yet done the well-known tourist thing that you want to do so you get to do it together. I just visited a friend in Europe and that's exactly what we did, we had a ball.

Your comment doesn’t make any sense. Just because someone travels alone doesn’t mean they’re going to get hurt or is a serial killer. You’re better than this, please revise the comment to something more constructive.
thanks,

Those traveling solo for the first time often see the trip almost as a religious experience. Sometimes it can be difficult to accept a new environment with all the prejudices, tastes, and preferences of fellow travelers.

When I travel alone, I get the most out of it. Thanks to such travels, I can isolate myself from the outside world, be alone with my thoughts and mentally relax. My emotional state for the last few months is not quite stable, so I decided to organize a solo trip to Italy. This country always fills me with positive emotions and allows me to relax. I decided to diversify my trip and participate in a gastronomic tour. I plan to take a course in cooking Italian national dishes. I think such an event in my life will positively affect my state of mind.
