American, White Males at Stanford

This is from Stanford's website.

Class of 2013 Profile

International - 38% Minorities - 27% Women - 24% Total 99%

I am no mathmatician, but it seems that this leaves 1% for white males from the US. Seems a little strange....

Am I misreading this ?

WhiteHatPlus that adds up to 89% dude.

I am laughing pretty hard right now.

You're born, you take shit. You get out in the world, you take more shit. You climb a little higher, you take less shit. Till one day you're up in the rarefied atmosphere and you've forgotten what shit even looks like. Welcome to the layer cake, son.

I think you have already been double pwned but yeah not mutually exclusive and that equals 89%...although I would guess that there are more than 24% females at Stanford so that could just be White-American women.

Goddamn one percenters.

Hahaha

But yeah - there's gonna be tons of overlap between minorities and international, and then some of the women fall into those categories too. They obviously just print the statistics that way to make the campus look more diverse

all joking aside, a better way to estimate (wont be exact) the number of white american males at stanford based on these numbers alone is to take the percentage of non-minorites (whites) which is 100 - 27 = 73%, and multiply it by the percentage of men, which is 100-24 = 76%. assuming that the number of white international students is negligible, this puts the percentage of white american males at stanford at about 55%.

this method assumes that the breakdown between men and women is the same for minorities and whites, and (as mentioned before) that there are a neglible amount of white international students.

Or just look at the % of people who aren't on financial aid and that's your answer.

Wouldn't work because they probably count Asians as minorities.

No dice - Stanford doesn't give aid to international students.

that's not a reasonable assumption. the number of white international students won't be negligible. there are always sizeable european and latin american contingents (mostly male)...and virtually 100% of them are white. then add in canadians, australians, etc.

Actually. 100-27 = 73%* percent of men which is actually 66 = 48 international + us men. But we still have to discount international men. (assuming international men and women have the same proportion as the overall and there are no white international men) we do 38*.66 = 25. so 48-25 =

23% white us men.

FYI, "international" is not a race (ie: British)

Fuck me... I really hope you're 12, and not a Stanford student.

Pro Tip: Some Internationals are also women. As are some Minorities.

I really hope you have never taken a statistics course. Because if you passed it, your college needs to really up its game.

Reality hits you hard, bro...
