Annihilation; Let's Talk About It. *(Insignificant Spoilers Alert)*

I just saw this masterpiece alone at 2PM today. IMO, this movie was essentially a Sci-Fi Thriller with terror and intellectual provocation in the mix. Very enjoyable, and left me wanting more. I would expect nothing less from the director of Ex Machina.

Not very often do we get high budget (granted, this movie only had a $40M budget compared to Interstellar's $165M) standalone that does an excellent job. As a matter of fact, the last sci-fi movie that impressed me and had me leaving the theatre feeling this way was Interstellar.

Premise: A meteor crashes into earth, bringing a weird, dangerous, and ever expanding haze called the "Shimmer." Our main character is former military; now a molecular scientist. Without spoiling anything, her story is good and engaging enough for us to want to follow her around everywhere she goes. The casting was pretty cool, because we have an all-women group heading into no man's land together. She's the scientist, and heads in with a doctor, team leader, navigator, and a dyke. I honestly forget what the dyke did because throughout the movie she's proves no added value to the team - plot beef I guess.

The film has us follow the main character in her team around as they try to find answers; along the way they see and experience things out of this world that challenge everything they know. Some of it is beautiful, some of it is terrifying; and I think that's because the film wants us to feel both sides of nature. The supernatural and extraterrestrial vibe is definitely there, and executed very well. Any more and i'd spoil the movie, but I highly recommend paying to see this movie; it's without a doubt going to become a cult classic. Unfortunately, they didn't market this movie enough for it to go mainstream and they released it too close to Black Panther.. But I would put this film in the same league as Interstellar.

Honestly, just go see it. It's gorgeous and intellectually stimulating. This film was made to take you into another world for two hours; to just immerse you in crazy visuals.

For those of you who have seen it: did you enjoy it? What did you dislike and like the most? What did you think about that ENDING? What are your favorite sci-fi movies and why? What makes a classic sci-fi movie, when today we deal with the same recycled plots again and again?
