Any private pilots in IB?
I have been a private pilot since my senior fall of high school and it is something that I love to do. I use it for travel, for fun, with friends, etc. I am going to be a SA at a BB this summer and I'm kinda anxious that outside the days I have between school ending and starting I won't have a free afternoon to just go and fly. I know I am not getting a week off and doing some crazy transcontinental adventure in the middle of the summer, but will I at least have 4 hours on a Saturday to go and stay current? Also, just curious but are any of you private pilots or do you know anyone at your firms who are?
bump
Yes, you will definitely have some windows to go fly.
Flying Windows? Sounds like a 1995 background.
I am - not been able to stay current in the 2 years. You probably could if you really tried but with the difficulties of being in nyc and exhaustion, it’s not how I’ve been spending the free time. Feel free to pm if you want
That's a bummer man. Flying has always helped me clear my mind and get refreshed for work. Maybe I can take you up this summer, although I'm not CFI so it wouldn't be much help.
Not in IB, but another private pilot monkey who unfortuantely can't stay current either due to monetary reasons and not time ones (if anyone had trouble figuring it out, airplanes are f***in' expensive to fly and maintain!).
Are we going to start a new thread comiserating about missing Sun 'n Fun this next weekend?
And I said this to the other reply, but I am very lucky to be in the "Dad owns a plane so I might as well learn to fly it" category. Really sorry you had to stop. WSO flying club? And yeah I can't make Sun 'n Fun either and Osh is kinda out of the question for the summer too. Always next year, though!
At least you had a choice it sounds like. I was voluntold by simply being born that I had to be in the club since dad was an airline pilot, flight instructor, met mom at his FBO and then raised me on an airpark. It was nice being able to fly the family planes, but even just paying for hours in someone else's is still pretty expensive so I decided to accept the past tense of "fly" for the sake of my wallet.
What BB? If you have protected Saturdays, you should be able to go nearly every Saturday including during FT.
If you don't have protected Saturdays, going to need to be diplomatic with your team but you should be able to fit it in - especially if you can go like 8am-12 or something
Not gonna say what BB because not anon, but I do have protected Saturdays, which is solid.
Wish I could, but I'd likely fail FAA medical screens due to depression/anxiety unfortunately. They're very strict about this kind of thing, which I'd understand at some level for commercial pilots; sucks for private though.
It's more the medications you might be taking. Also, you can fly almost all general aviation aircraft under BasicMed. I recommend looking into it. Get flying!
