the iPad probably appeals to their target market of people who like to buy revel in apple's brand of exclusivity. That is why they buy expensive macs which can be easily replaced by a much cheaper PC.

This is great. The other day, I was looking at my iPhone and thought, "hmmmm, I really wish this didn't fit in my pocket."

This is the 2000's version of the Apple Newton

I am a huge AAPL bear, mainly because I think the stock is priced for perfection and their pipeline is very much lacking. I also could see history repeating itself where Apple had a head start in the home/business computing world in the 1980s and soon lost out to MSFT. I believe this time around will be GOOG supplanting them.

I agree it is an overpriced ipod. I am wondering a few things...

A) Why doesn't it have a camera so you can videochat B) Will you be able to skype? C) What is typing on that keyboard going to be like? D) How is ATT's network, that is already getting crushed by the amount of data that the iphone is using, going to handle a new surge of people who can get unlimited data for $1/day, with no contract, on a device that can download video, audio, apps, browse the web, and pull a TON more data than an iphone can... ATT's service is going to be worse than ever in my mind

I was very excited for it mainly because I like the tablet form factor and I really hoped that Jobs would do for the tablet what he did for the Iphone. I was pretty disappointed with this thing essentially being a huge Iphone. It should of included a camera for conferencing at the very least. The price point is decent so it really competes with the kindle, but I feel like it is lacking so much. You can buy an HP tablet and install the Iphone OS on it and you have the tablet and a fully functional PC for a couple hundred more. Maybe once it comes out people will hack it, etc. Right now it could of been so much better.

What are you guys talking about? I thought this IPad was supposed to be the Apple's Kindle. (with Wi-fi!) It wouldn't really be apples-to-apples comparing this to a laptop, etc, would it?

I'm kinda worried, though, about this bunch of different standards. I'd like to get a IPad but still wanna download e-books on amazon :p

You can convert kindle files to PDF's if you want. Ipad is pretty cool and useful if you don't have an Iphone, but it isn't that much cooler than what us Iphone people already have.

adapt or die
ideatingThe real questions is: when will the iPad become big in banking?

AND can I turn my iPad into a bloomberg terminal...

Now that would be interesting! The Ipad in finance reminds me of the Nymex electronic trading hand held units.

The name really bothers me...it sounds like a futuristic tampon. And the fact that it has a restricted OS ruins it. I'll wait for the 2nd gen when there's a built in camera and all the other stuff they forgot.

Three HUGE fuck-ups: 1. The best browsing experience.... without flash. How am I suppose to watch xvideos.com? 2. Shitty ebook device. Your eyes will bleed after 1 hour of reading. E-Ink was created for a reason. 3. 4:3 aspect ratio. Hello? Widescreen movies anyone?

I am just curious, what did R&D do the whole time? Sucked each other off? Design... shit OS... same as iPhone

Think of where they can take the iPad next! Maybe they can shrink it down to a small size, and then you could take your music anywhere. It could even be small enough to be a phone!

Obvious jokes about the name aside, this product is a piece of crap. It's a giant iPhone, except you can't call people with it. Running multiple/background apps at once is still on the horizon, and touchscreens are a pretty bad GUI in general when you're talking about something as large as the iPad; they're slow and inefficient. You'd be better off with an eePC.

I can not wait for this device to be in the market. Im sick and tired of reading the wall street journal and reuters on my blackberry. and its not any better for the Iphone. I will drop $500.00 to read fresh news to the minute and not having to squint.

This is the news paper of the future, mark my words!!!!! You will think of me when you see your MD reading the journal on it.
