Are We Going to Lease Everything by 2020?
Today you woke up in your rented apartment and got to work in your rental car (hopefully provided by your company). You probably entered a rented office where "rented" part-time contractors welcomed you. If you go on holidays the plane you're flying in is probably a rental too because airlines don't bother with owning their own aircrafts any more.
You can rent anything, a TV, a computer, you name it. But can we go even further? Think about renting those 4 things:
- Your Dog: Yes the dog. Why not? Let's say your daughter desperately wants one but you know you'll end up taking care of the dog. Well you just have to rent a dog for 6 months with a buy option. And if one day you are tired of it you don't have to pretend that you sent him out in the country side, you just brought him back to the shop.
- Your Diploma: This one I've not figured out yet. But I think there's a market for people who want to try a field for one year or two and can't be bothered to get a full diploma for that. Can you just study some of the modules that give you access to the renting with a full support staff helping you on a daily basis? I don't know but if you have a business plan let's launch a start-up
- Your CFO: This one already exists for small companies. Instead of paying for a full time rubbish CFO, you "rent" a top of the range CFO for 8 hours a week. It's probably a better option for a start-up and it's definitely going to get bigger in the next few years
So what do you think guys? Are we going to rent friends soon?
1, 2, 3 . . .
Sorry I was thinking about including something about renting kids but I changed my mind at the last minute.
The more I think about it the more it makes sense though... are you ready to be a daddy/mommy? Rent a kid and find out!
It makes the whole parenting stuff too easy to give up on though. I mean every mom would love to be able to bring back their kid and most of them would do it i'm sure!
I like the dog idea by the way, there should be a market for it.
Worth it even for the sole purpose of hearing the "OMG, how can you rent a living thing? It's immoral!"
you can already rent "friends", just illegal in a few countries.
How about a wife?
aka girlfriend? Lease-to-buy baby.
But OP, I do like the idea of leasing more things in life, especially a dog.
Offices are already rented. And it's too tax inefficient to lease a home, especially if tax rates go up.
i thought they were getting rid of tax deductions for interest on house loans ? wasn't there a big debate awhile ago
education already offers a way to check out a field without doing the whole degree. It's called taking a class.

Title of the page: leasing a bitch
It's not what you think though!
I would definitely do the "rent a dog" option for ~6months in-between travels
