Asap
How do yall use and interpret "asap" in a work context over email
I use it when I'd like something soon but I don't want to force a deadline on people, so they can send it by whenever they can manage to. Is that being too vague? Does asap come across demanding? Am I being a complete jerk?
ASAP is vague, and it is often used to suggest that you should drop whatever you are doing. Don't use it unless you are sure that everyone around you understands the intent. For subordinates, I recommend a NLT hit time (with the understanding that they can communicate if they will have an issue with the deadline). For peers, I suggest the same thing, but you can phrase it with slightly rounded edges, so it doesn't rub anyone the wrong way.
Generally:
- EOD = 11:59pm deadline
- COB = 4:59pm deadline
ASAP generally means drop everything as the poster above stated. If someone said this to me I would mention other obligations I am dropping. ie: “Are you ok for me to drop X assignment for Y manager?”
EOD = before whenever your MD is up in the morning
