Ask Banks For Their Models To Use For Practice?

There are so few investment banking case studies in circulation unlike consulting. I was thinking about starting a student org, and then approaching investment banks asking to have access to their deal models (M&A, LBO, valuation etc).

Let's say we draw up an official NDA and everything. Why would the bank say no? What would the bank be losing from doing this? Why isn't this a thing already? Every deal the bank does is a new case study, and with this in mind there are thousands of case studies sitting out there.

What road blocks will I face if I try to do this?

You are better off having people come in, from the banks themselves, as a 'career day' or something to speak about how to think about valuation, transactions, banking, etc. Try and do that through your alumni network.

To the models - no bank is going to give you those, especially the 'actual' models themselves used in the transactions. It's pure risk with proprietary information - with no upside. Besides - the relevant part of this entire exercise is to better understand the thinking behind the assumptions that go into the models... which come from the people involved. Getting a model without all of that is, in my view, somewhat pointless.
