At the start of my career, trying to deal with the cast of characters at my firm
I am really having trouble navigating some politics at work (I have literally been WFH the whole time since I started so it's been super difficult). You have a cast of characters on my team, who treat juniors like crap and are hell-bent on making us look bad:
1) There are some who are really aggressive and basically stab everyone in the back and front. These characters suck up to bosses but are hated by all their colleagues. These fellows are also very narcissistic and speak ill of colleagues in front of superiors. They have low integrity but somehow become very successful on my team (BB IBD).
2) There are others who say nice things to your face but are really disingenuous. These guys are in it for themselves and just don't repay you any favours you have done for them.
By nature, I am the quiet Asian kid who just likes to get along with people, non-confrontational, low drama, try not to complain BUT I can already sense that this behaviour won't get me very far at my current place. I was hoping I can ask for some advice on how to navigate these ruthless office political plays? What did you learn when you started and how did you not burn bridges, piss off people while also pushing back?
