Best Stock Monitoring Platform/App?

Hey Monkeys - I've been looking into stock monitoring apps as of late, saw a few unique ones with Wallstreetzen, YahooFinance and some others that were rated as top apps for this type of stuff.

Wanted to get everyone's thoughts, so I ask you this:

  • Do you use a stock monitoring app for personal finance/investment tracking?
  • Do you find all the bells and whistles like advanced analytics and stuff useful or are you more like me: stocks, quotes, charts, news,  and maybe a screener and dashboard for world markets.
  • If you could build your own app or just add something to the existing ones, what would it be? For me, I think dynamic portfolio tracking is beneficial. I haven't seen any given platform do it justice for the average retail investor.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights and recommendations regarding stock monitoring platforms and apps:

Stock Monitoring Apps:

  1. Wallstreetzen and YahooFinance are popular choices for stock monitoring.
  2. Investment Journal Software: For those looking to keep detailed records of their investment decisions, an investment journal can be beneficial. This can include:
    • Reasons for buying or passing on a stock.
    • Notes to revisit a stock after certain events.
    • Cloud accessibility for convenience.

Features and Preferences:

  • Basic Features: Many users prefer essential features such as:

    • Stock quotes
    • Charts
    • News updates
    • Screeners
    • Dashboards for world markets
  • Advanced Analytics: While some find advanced analytics useful, others prefer a more straightforward approach focusing on the basics.

Desired Features in a Stock Monitoring App:

  • Dynamic Portfolio Tracking: A feature that many users find lacking in current platforms. This would allow for real-time updates and better management of personal portfolios.
  • Integration with Financial Reports: Similar to the idea of standardized financial reports that integrate with accounting software like Quickbooks or NetSuite, a stock monitoring app could benefit from integrating financial metrics and KPIs.
  • Audit Tracker: An app that links source documents to numbers in spreadsheets for easy reference, reducing the "where did this number come from" moments.

Additional Tools and Apps:

  • Property Management: Yardi, MRI, Appfolio, Buildium
  • Asset Management: VTS, MRI, Yardi
  • Contact Management/CRM: Cloze, Podio, ZoHo, Salesforce
  • Accounting: MRI, Yardi, Quickbooks, Freshbooks
  • Project Management: Microsoft Project, Smartsheets, Podio, ZoHo, Wrike
  • Financial Analysis: Argus, Excel
  • Property/Market Data: CoStar
  • Storage/Cloud/Filesharing: Dropbox, Box, Google Drive
  • Integration: Zapier, IFTTT

These tools and apps can provide additional functionalities that might be useful depending on your specific needs and preferences.
