Book Club
I just finished reading a long, dry, technical book and was wondering what you fellow monkeys out there are reading...
I'm looking for suggestions...and going away from my usual non-fiction reading and heading to the fictional world.
So any fictional recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks.
A Game of Thrones if you are into the fantasy genre
Infinite Jest is awesome if you have the time and energy.
Can't help but to suggest "American Psycho." :P (But actually, it's twisted as far as fiction goes). Also, you might wanna try "The Fear Index," which is quite recent. Also, also, I'd suggest "A Farewell to Arms," or "For Whom the Bell Tolls," "The Caine Mutiny," or perhaps "The Naked and the Dead."
(Obvious military history fiction trend above)
Agreed on The Caine Mutiny. I loved that book. If you're up for a slog into epic poetry, I had a lot of fun with Paradise Lost (get an annotated edition and save yourself some trouble).
Oy vey, Paradise Lost is truly a slog.
I'm gonna move the Caine Mutiny up to the top of my list. Plus, it made a decent movie (and is on streaming Netflix, no less).
I highly recommend The Face, by dean Koontz. Its splinter cell meets 24. great stuff it really is.
Of man's first disobedience, and the fruit of that forbidden tree...
I heard there's a prose version of Paradise Lost floating around. That takes the fun out of it!
