Breaking down my monthly budget !

Net monthly pay: 6672

  • 401k: $367
  • Roth IRA: $600
  • Rent: $2000
  • Personal Brokerage: $2000
  • HYSA: $500

= $1205 after investments

  • Groceries: $300
  • Miscellaneous (Amazon, Subcriptions): $300
  • Going Out: $400

Net: $205 leftover

This I can use for the occasional takeout meal, snacks, gift and or treat! I think I do pretty well for myself. What are your thoughts on my budget ? Anyone care to share theirs?

Edits and comments: Yes 401k is not being deducted, just too lazy to make the calculation. 401k is maxed out to employer match of 4%.

1.2k a month is more than enough for my living expenses.

If this is New York, $400 / month for going out doesn’t go very far. Granted you don’t have to drink ( I personally don’t spend a ton of $ on alcohol / bars ). I would recommend loosening the purse strings a bit if you feel constrained from going out and doing things. I made this mistake my first year in New York - focused on saving the marginal $100-200 every month at the cost of a better social life.
