Is this NYC?

Your tax assumptions seem low.  You're making $100k/yr (I'm assuming this is base, but will ignore bonus for now--Generally ignoring bonus is a good assumption) and your after tax is assuming an aggregate ~28% tax rate.  Remember, you have FIT, NYS, NYC, SS and Medicare.  SS & Medicare are 7.65% alone.  NYC/NYS are close enough as doesn't matter to 10% combined.  FIT (Fed. Income Tax) is significantly progressive, but you're already at 17.5%,and you'll probably be paying another 20-30% for that.

Your budget seems OK, but this will eat into that buffer you built.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.
