Can a portfolio manager date an i-banker?

Hi, monkeys!

A friend of a friend is a portfolio manager at an asset management company and he is currently dating a girl who works in M&A. They both cover the same location and the industries often overlap.

Even though they don't work for the same bank, I was a bit surprised that they are so open about being together. Isn't trespassing the Chinese wall a big no-no if you want to keep your job?

They probably know what they're doing, but I got curious about how these things are handled nowadays.

This can go very badly for your friend if it gets disclosed. Not trying to act like compliance but some 6/10 chick from Long island isn't worth your friend losing his job

This is not an issue unless his girlfriend is loose-lipped about what she's doing at work. Frankly, if their mutual interests are exclusively in which M&A are occuring soon the relationship has other problems.

If Bud Fox in Wall Street could get rich off his dad's union gossip then this guy is gonna be rolling in dough
