Can an Office Temperature Be ‘Sexist’?

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/28/nyregion/offic…

Apparently the temperature in the office is sexist, according to Cynthia Nixon who is challenging Andrew Cuomo for the democratic nomination for Governor in NY. She is demanding the room temperature be set to 76 degrees for their debate.

Can office temperatures be sexist? Hell yea! We should just increase the temperature and take off all our clothes. Only then will we achieve true equality.

"It just seems to me that it’s an outdated equilibrium that we all live in. I was genuinely excited to see Cynthia Nixon challenging that equilibrium.”

On a serious note, these people are insane.

This is absurd. She's doing this just to make Cuomo sweat during the debate, literally. Now, let's just add in something extra here - if the room temp is 76 degrees, and the two of them are under bright lights for the TV cameras, how hot do you think it will actually be where they are standing. Just as a point of comparison, I know physicians who set the temperature in the Operating Room to 65 Degrees because once they start operating and are under the surgical theater light, it gets hot as hell pretty damn quickly. The same holds true for the area under the spotlights and both Cuomo and Nixon will get pretty hot under them. I think she's being ridiculous to force her opponent to endure a hotter venue because she claims lower temperatures are sexist. Cuomo's in a shitty situation - damned if he does accept her request (suffering in heat and sweating like a cow) and damned if he doesn't (getting called a sexist by the progressive crowd). IF I were him, I'd rather be comfortable in a debate than not or concede to setting the temp to no higher than 72 degrees to show a willingness to compromise.

Then again, the cooler temperature is an offset for the suit and tie. It's been said already and that's the rub.

"When Debra Cohen was looking for new jobs, she focused her search on positions where she could work from her home in Tampa, Fla., in part because of the temperature of office buildings."

I'm sad no one pointed out this fucking gem. Officially revising my order of importance for any future job searches:

1) Salary 2) Office Temp 3) Exit Opps.
