Can someone explain the Ramaswamy hype?

I really don't get it. Yes he's a super smart accomplished guy and a great speaker. But he's a total fraud. He has literally done a 180 on every position. His foreign policy view is laughable (e.g. let Russia annex part of Ukraine, we should let China invade Taiwan once we don't need them anymore for semiconductors). Yet, so many people have fallen for his grift.

What's going on? For those of you who support Ramaswamy, why do you like him? He won't be the nominee but if he were, he would lose in a huge landslide to Biden.

Annexation of a majority ethnic Russian area of Ukraine given the current bloodshed and destruction of the country? Not laughable.

Disagree? Sure. Laughable? I’d assume there have been serious peace treaty conversations that have already taken place around this point.

Biden wins in a landslide? I think he has a much higher chance of this if a) he doesn’t participate in any debates and b) inflation subsides (very well could given rates and incoming student debt)

Let’s use your logic:

Should Mexico invade and annex Texas due to its majority ethnic Hispanic population ?

Now let me take you back to basics on why we should relentlessly aid Ukraine and recuperate the lost land:

What is an asset ?

An asset is a probable future economic benefit obtained or controlled by a particular entity as a result of past transactions or events

Key words: future economic benefit

Ukraine has one of the largest mineral deposits in the world, is bountiful in precious metals and hydrocarbons, and is one of the largest producers of wheat in the world. Not only that, but Ukraine has tremendous natural resources for meeting domestic oil and gas production needs, with estimates of approximately 900 billion cubic meters of proven reserves of natural gas. In Europe, Ukraine ranks second for gas reserves.

Additionally, there’s no need to even explain the strategic importance of control over the port of Odessa and Crimea, essentially controlling the flow of trade in the Sea of Azov and Black Sea.

By supporting Ukraine, we are indirectly securing trade rights for all these commodities, resources and strategic implications that its territorial sovereignty implicates, for the next 100 years.

This war isn’t being fought for resources and land we need today, but ones that we will rely on in 50, 100, 200 years from now.

This is why it’s so important to maintain our foreign policy and stand by Ukraines side for as long as it takes, because at the end of the day, YOU and YOUR CHILDREN will be the ones benefitting from the outcome of the war.

Do you get it now ? This isn’t about Putin, Trump, Biden, etc. This is about protecting Americas future assets, aiding the brave men and women of Ukraine, and securing Europes sovereignty.

You lost credibility the moment you brought up Mexico invading and taking over parts of Texas. We'd blow them all to hell before and take over their country before that had any chance of happening. Texas alone could likely crush the sad excuse of an army Mexico has

Not the same because:

A) "Mexican" isn't really an ethnicity and neither is "hispanic". You would have an argument if "Mexican" meant native mexican ancestry, but I don't believe the numbers are on the same scale as Russians in Ukraine.

B) Hispanics aren't getting persecuted in Texas, which is the argument about Russians in Ukraine.

C) Mexico isn't a historical country which has traditionally been home to the "Mexican" people. It was created as a colonial country with a diverse range of different ethnicities.

Doesn’t matter. Trump is leading 40 points in the polls. There is no genuine hype that will affect any kind of result in this election cycle. And don’t act like him getting the VP nod would matter; Kamala is VP and no one cares about her.

No one cares about her but she got votes as the first ""black woman"" VP.

Ramaswamy would pick up the Indian vote (which is for the taking since they are traditionally hard working, conservative and against things like Affirmative Action), as well as be a charismatic populist and potentially pick up people who believe in the populist message but dismayed by Trump. A random placeholder VP pick wouldn't do that.

Indians only make up ~1-1.5% of the US population and are heavily concentrated in New Jersey and California. Not exactly the most relevant group for republicans numbers wise or geographically. Thus, Vivek's strategic value as an Indian VP is pretty low. Black voters are much much more numerous and are highly represented in southern states so Kamala's selection was more important.

I think its because he has this energy and charisma that the other candidates lack. People want to see shit get done and his bulldozer approach to the “deep state” is very attractive. I agree that his foreign policy stances are awful but besides that I don’t think that his views are all that different from the others on that stage. He just seems to be trying to one up everyone on their positions. I think its hard to get super riled up about someone like Mike Pence when you have people like Vivek or Trump that are way more interesting humans and carry this energy with them.

How are they awful? They make sense to me. End the blood-shed in Ukraine, let Russia keep territory that wants to be Russian anyways, and decouple them from China. What is the alternative? Keep going for ages and have more young Ukrainians killed and more tax-payer money wasted on a foreign war? Do we actually expect Ukraine to be able to take back the Donbas and Crimea with how their counter offensive is going? Russia will never accept the humiliation and it will just lead to escalation (if Ukraine even manages to pull it off), the potential use of nukes, and the irreparable alienation of Russia from the West, pushing them into China's axis.

I agree on the Taiwanese issue too. Defend it as long as the West relies on it for crucial semiconductor chips but maybe don't start a war with a massive authoritarian nuclear superpower if it isn't absolutely crucial to the West's technological infrastructure. The US isn't the world's policeman, it's a country that should serve its people's interests... China could also potentially win the war if it's centered around Taiwan given the US' ammunition depletion

I think its naive to think Russia will simply stop being friendly with China because we tell them too in an agreement. Russia will always act in its self interest no matter what treaties or agreements are signed. Even if we secure peace by giving them those chunks of land (which I don't believe want to be a part of Russia as you say) it wont last. If chipping away at a sovereign countries land worked for Russia now it will work for them 5, 10, and 20 years from now too. I believe the only way to actually secure peace is long term is to show that we will not tolerate imperialistic landgrabs. I believe the weakening of Russia, our enemy with the small amount of tax dollars we actually spend on Ukraine is an effective use. I don't believe this war will end soon but the Ukrainians are not only fighting for their own sovereignty but also in our interest too. If they wish too keep fighting we should enable them. I don't believe Russia would use nukes, unless in the case of their own sovereignty being threatened.

On the Taiwanese issue I believe the support of the west and Asian democracies has and will continue to be an effective deterrent in stopping that war. Taiwan is not only critical for its technology but its geographical location is also crucial to ensure free trade in the pacific. I believe the vast majority of Chinese don't want to actually die fighting their fellow Chinese.

I actually do believe that it is in America and its allies interest to have a commanding presence in the world. I think the overall peace we have enjoyed in the world is more fragile than people think. Even if a direct invasion of the US is not an immediate threat having the world descend into chaos is certainly not in our interest.

I agree, he's well to the right of Trump and people don't bat an eyelid. The fact is although he has a good chance of sucking up to be Trump's VP; he's part of everything the MAGA fanbase despise - Harvard, Yale, Wall Street, Hedge Funder, Biotech entrepreneur. On the one side Trump and him can be as effective in securing the Conservative Indian vote but I feel like DeSantis, this stardust around Vivek will eventually fade. He's willing to let Russia take the Ukraine, will allow China to take Taiwan and even wants to reduce funding to Israel. Unlike Haley, Vivek doesn't have a clue how government or diplomacy even works. I'm not even sure if he actually believes the rubbish he spouts out about climate change and invasion on the Southern border but he definitely knows he's appealing to the MAGA base in hope for Trump to reward his 24/7 shilling.

His numbers are impressive for a relative rando:
