Can someone please explain what a sleeve/carve out is?

Question is in the title. I have seen many threads that talk about MM senior analysts having their own "sleeves" or "carve outs"

Are these two terms synonymous?

What do they mean?

Thanks

Sometimes I won’t even tell someone to Google something, because you’d imagine it’s very intuitive.
