Canelo has lost
For those of you who follow boxing, Canelo was arguably the best pound for pound boxer we’ve seen since Mayweather. His only loss before last night was to Mayweather almost a decade ago. Now, Canelo has 2 losses, with his most recent being at 175lbs.
Do we blame this on fighting at a higher than ideal class? Too cocky? Canelo’s whole legacy was “best in the world except one loss to Floyd when he was young”, but now that’s gone out the window
And the Gypsy King has ostensibly retired. Feel like Canelo and Fury were propping this sport back into the mainstream limelight and just like that one is gone and the other defeated. Same thing with Joshua losing his hype and McGregor no longer galvanizing UFC. Combat sports need new superstars or come-backs.
Love canelo but he’s human and weight classes exist for a reason. Just cause he’s amazing pound for pound doesn’t mean he can keep going up in weight and steam rolling through people. It’s like when Adesanya tried to fight at 205 in the UFC and lost
