It seems like violence in the bay area is getting out of hand. I have heard so many times that friends were assaulted...

That's been the case for a decade+ now... Amusingly no one seems to care because the criminals are the real victims!

To me this feels way more targeted.  The CashApp platform has been a huge boon for criminal activity and now that there was a massive investigative report leaked last week about it the founder of the company gets stabbed to death at 2 am?  Yes, seems 100% random.

The abductive reasoning is strong with this one. Hopefully we find out some more about the root motive like who did it and what specifically they were trying to stop from coming out. Granted, it honestly could've been one of the numerous addicts running around SFO these days. Heard he was a big shot and wanted to roll him, went out of hand and "whoopsies". Either way, still not a fun story to read.

Edit: I now realize both of my ideas could actually be one in the same after thinking about it. IE: some addict or dealer who used CashApp got scared, wanted to put a hold on things and mug him in the process and it went overboard.

I would agree that it would have been random if it had happened at like 9 -10pm when people could reasonably be expected to be out.  A married man with two daughters being out at 1 - 2 am in the middle of the week just seems really odd.  The dude was well off but wasn't a centimillionaire+, at least from what I could find.  The baseline facts just don't make any sense for this to be random.  Unless the dude was a down low junkie himself, I am going to go with targeted.

to the topic at hand - I agree that this could be more than a random attack.

Serious question - are there any major cities that (I) have real tech, finance, etc industry and (ii) are ran by conservatives?

All the major job markets seem to be ran by democrats.. and I’m not moving to BFE so I can be “safe” but make $40k/year

I would say that the big, crappy cities in America that are also strong economic engines are a reminder that capitalism is not a system of morality or even an ideology--capitalism is a system for the efficient distribution of capital, and nothing more or less. The moral superstructure around capitalism can be good or bad. The big, progressive cities are replete with hardcore capitalists with a bad moral framework. So it's not surprising that people driven principally by greed would choose to become neighbors with people who hate justice, thus creating what is presently the state of California, which would be a failed state if not for its nearly perfect weather.

That said, conservatism has been poisoned by libertarianism, so in the ostensibly right-wing areas of America, "conservatives" refuse to govern, also leaving those places undesirable crapholes with poor infrastructure and mediocre (if not bad) public services and no sense of community.

completely agree with this. There are plenty of global cities that are "conservative" in nature with great infrastructure and public services. I see no reason why we should be an anomaly and have bad livability in conservative-leaning places.
