CBS Republican Debate in South Carolina

Another few days, another Republican Presidential debate. This debate was in Spartanburg, South Carolina and focused almost exclusively on foreign policy. Did anyone catch it on CBS? Below are just some of my thoughts from the debate along with some ridiculous prognosticating....

• Romney's easily still in the lead, and it's probably at that point where it's insurmountable. He's the nominee.
• After's tonight's performance, Cain's on the way down, showing that he's just like many of the other contenders (Bachmann, Perry and it seems like Gingrich as well) that gets a quick jump in popularity. Won't get the nomination, may end up with Commerce Secretary.
• Gingrich is basically where Cain was 2-3 weeks ago. In time, people will see that he's too much of an ideas man and he just isn't a good fit for president. Will probably end up with some cabinet position (state maybe), or better yet, go back to his political consultancy or work for a think tank.
• Rick Perry is done, and it's not because of his fuck-up from Wednesday. It's that he's done terrible in all the debates, his fundraising has been plummeting over the past few weeks and he really doesn't have the real world, global scope/overall intellect to deal with the problems that the president has to deal with. He's perfect at what he does now.
• IMO, all Ron Paul's doing is mixing up the debate and getting people to think about the ideas he's offering. It is interesting that he's one of the few candidates that's openly buying blocks of TV advertising in Iowa and NH, but it's unlikely hell get anything significant past the first few primaries. (Random/Awesome Possibility: Paul drops out by early March, complains that the Republican party has lost it's focus, creates a third party ticket, maybe with the Libertarian Party, with Gary Johnson or someone else. This isn't something he hasn't completely ruled out).
• Michelle Bachmann and Jon Huntsman had average performances and didn't break out of the pack in any way. Overall, they never had a chance. That's fine for Bachmann, because she's an idiot, but this is unfortunate for Jon Huntsman, because I think his views (socially, fiscally, etc) coincide with the majority of middle America; as a result, he would have had the best chance with independents. Another possibility as Secretary of State due to his former posts as ambassador.
• Santorum possibly has a chance, but he has to kill Iowa and do well in other early states, like FL, SC and NV. However, I see him as a potential VP candidate, most likely to Romney. He has the Tea Party cred that Romney never had, he can potentially deliver an almost consistently blue state, Pennsylvania, along with its 20+ electoral votes, and he's an overall good counter-balance to Romney.

So that's where I think we are at this point. What do you guys think?
