Um, are you looking to pad your resume or looking to actually make a difference?  If the former, you're probably going to be in some real douchey organizations.

Personally I'm debating making a move to join my High School's finance committee.  We're fully alumni and endowment funded and while I hate the church, I have strong positive opinions of the place. It'll be far fewer zeros than I'm used to working with (I think the endowment's about $100M) but it'll make me feel good.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.
