Coming Up With A DJ Name

Guys, In my free-time I have dj'd at nightclubs in tier 2 cities (in college), and a few venues with around 100 people. Not a lot, but it's a start.

I have been using my first name and last name as a start but I don't want to do that incase the whole thing backfires.

What are some cool DJ/producer names. Any advice and suggestions are welcome.

Grew up around the DJ culture when I was younger and my other half works in media and entertainment, so I have met quite a few famous DJs from various backgrounds.
What others said is spot on, make sure either you have a name that is unique and revolves around you or a reflection of a mission or culture you represent (that can be a music style, a region, or a style/lifestyle).
The less generic, the better.

Give us a few ideas about you and I am sure you will get good feedback and ideas. Without knowing you we'd probably say DJ Analyst or DJ IBD, DJ BB.

You have said nothing here to describe yourself personally to help aid in finding a DJ name.

all of these are terrible suggestions besides Sriracha, that is kinda amusing. keep em coming isaiah

Yeah DJ Sriracha is a good one ‘cause when you’re playing, you could throw out some hype like ‘keeping it hot with DJ Sriracha’.... 😂

I think DJ Simp is kinda funny and also captures a current cultural meme

2 advices.

1)Don't ever call yourself "DJ XYZ". Kind of a same deal with rappers where no one nowadays calls themselves "MC XYZ". It makes you look like you're still living in the 80s.

Just go with XYZ.

2) As for choosing the name XYZ. Short & Sweet. It could be a derivative if your name, something memorable about what you've experienced (usually a good story you could tell others at a party), or something that captures the essence of your music.

Couple examples are

A) Alessandro -> Alesso

B) Deadmau5 named himself that because one day he found a dead mouse in one of his synthesizer machines.

C) Hardwell wanted people coming to his gigs to party "hard" but stay "well"

Just one point on your first point, there is a rapper who goes by Chance the Rapper

I think you could pull it off. You could have stuff like a monkey themed hat you wear sometimes, or a shirt with a banana on it as your general theme. You could trademark your rhythms with a chimp 'oo oo aa aa' styled mixes that could be your signature. I think you could go to the moon with this - it's catchy.
