Commute from Home vs. Lease in the City

I'm debating whether to commute or lease for my summer internship. The internship is five days per week in the office in Buckhead (Atlanta). Given morning and evening traffic, it would be about a 50-65-minute commute from where I live. I live with my parents, so commuting from home would save me lease $. I've previously done an internship with the same commute time, but it was 1-2 days per week in the office. I'd love to commute to save the lease $, but I'm also a little worried the 2 hours/day driving will be overwhelming. Any thoughts/advice are appreciated.

Dude they’re paying you stub piece of analyst salary, right??

Get the apartment so you can get LAID this summer, and not try and bring girls back to mom and dads

Get your own place for the summer. Find roommates if needed.

In that case add 10-14 hours per week depending on weekend requirements.  55 capped is manageable with that.  If that were to be a baseline over 60 I would say it's not worth the money savings given the fact that it will likely impare your work.

At 40-50 hours a week I would just drive - you can be strategic about traffic times and leave a bit later to miss the worst traffic. If you're planning on working 70+ consistently I would get the apartment

50min isn't a terrible commute and I would try to save money while you can

Just remember the age old rule, every minute you wait is at least another two minutes in commute.

Good point - being strategic around when leaving to/from work is something I'll prioritize if I commute. I'd probably sacrifice some sleep to beat morning traffic.

You should lease in the Emory or Georgia Tech dorms. Maybe if you have friends in school in the city you can sublease their apartment for a good deal.

You do not want to live that far from work in Atlanta as an intern. You stay late helping out with something, it's been a long week, and you are facing a 45 min drive out OTP to get home? That is a mistake. You'll spend a not insignificant amount on gas and wear/tear on your car as well that will eat into your rent savings.

Stay in town. Go out in Buckhead, hit the Beltline, catch a couple United/Braves games. Enjoy your summer.

Really makes me wonder how the 40-50 year old guys at my work who live deep in the Jersey/Long Island suburbs even survive.
