Daily Routine

What is your daily routine? Do you have any habits that you do on a daily basis that you attribute much of your success to? Exercise, meditation, having goals, etc? Interesting article from a while ago about meditation and business...

Are any of you doing things like this and have you noticed benefits in your life/career?

Yes, the first thing I do when I wake up is ask myself what the fuck am I doing with my life.

I believe in taking care of myself, and a balanced diet and a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches. I can do a thousand now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial masque which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

But really, wake up, cook egg whites and oatmeal, go to the gym, make the iron my bitch, work, come home, read something non-finance related, and sleep. Not sure if there's a secret to success, other than staying grounded/having outside interests so you don't become a boring person like 85% of MD's you meet.

I will never get the hate people have against egg yolks. They are delicious and are one of the most complete natural forms of protein out there. If you're at the level where you seriously have to worry about the cholesterol in egg yolks, you have much bigger dietary issues to worry about. Life is too short not to enjoy whole eggs.

I don't like egg yolks because I think they taste funny. I would eat them otherwise to get that sweet, sweet Omega-3.

I am indeed a first year analyst, but I work at a wonderful boutique with a culture of mutual respect, so I work hours more like 65-80 rather than 100. I also view the gym as something that is simply not optional, like brushing my teeth; this is partially a result of vanity, but more so that it's the most effective mental health booster I've found.

That is freaking awesome, good for you. Are you based in NYC or elsewhere? And that's a phenomenal way to look at working out - as integral as brushing your teeth.

If you wouldn't mind though, let's say you're at the top end of the spectrum (80 hours) for a week straight (not sure if you work weekends), what's the breakdown of your typical day. I'm really curious as I will be starting as an analyst soon and I've heard working out is pretty much out of the question. Although, i feel like it is very important to try and hit the gym whenever possible and it is definitely great for mental health (endorphins baby).

I stretch in the morning for 10 minutes while I listen to New York 1. At some point during the day, I disappear for 30 minutes and go to the gym on the first floor of my building to spend 20 minutes on the treadmill, then 10 minute to shower and get back to my desk. I feel brand new when I get back.

......just trying to save at least one hour a day for myself....for sanity purposes.

Not the point...you're supposed to become aware of when your mind drifts and at that instant take your awareness back to the object of your meditation - a visualization or breathing, for example. You have to meditate for about 60-90 days to really begin to feel like you're accomplishing something through it, but once you do, trust me -- you'll know.

Not the point...you're supposed to become aware of when your mind drifts and at that instant take your awareness back to the object of your meditation - a visualization or breathing, for example. You have to meditate for about 60-90 days to really begin to feel like you're accomplishing something through it, but once you do, trust me -- you'll know.
Well, I probably should give meditation another shot if only to help myself start sleeping earlier.. I'll try tonight even. Thanks for the advice
