Did anyone break out of 24 months lease in NYC before it started?

I might need to relocate and was wondering what would happen if I break my lease? I was supposed to move July 1st. Paid one month and half a month deposit

You might have to sublet - this sounds like a pain.

Getting an offer and I think it is a solid place so considering it

Talk to your landlord ASAP. It's becoming a seller's market so they might let you off easier (pay 2-3 months rent and go away) rather than having you/them deal with a sublet. If it's one person that's easier than a leasing company or complex.

Your new firm should pay all of this, or buy you out of your lease if needed if you're relocating.

I don’t have an offer in my hand yet. Should I be alerting them now? Im scared to change my mind too. But lease starts in two weeks

'should' lol ok

Yeah this would be optimal.

You can fake your death during a trip to a third wolrd country. Then have your family members come and collect your beonging from your apartment.  They'll cut their loss without asking questions.

Somone else will advise you to sublet or try to find a replacement tenant. Not me, I'll help you think outside of the box. You can sublet for summer interns and even offer a try before you buy kind of deal where they buy you out of your lease, but you sublet to them for a month first.
