I assume he’s referring to earning a degree in General Studies (not to be confused with the college’s General Education requirements). If you choose not (or are unsuccessful in trying) to earn enough credits for a diploma in a specific major/concentration like Applied Math or Economics, you receive a degree in ‘General Studies.’
