Dissapointed with the direction of politics on this forum

Posts attacking women, Asian people, underrepresented minorities, and just in general people with different political views or backgrounds are everywhere on this website. It's inevitable that political conversation is going to happen in a forum about finance and I'm not advocating for censoring people because they have different perspectives, but there are some obvious bad actors on this site who clearly do not have good intentions to spur constructive conversations. I personally would not mention this website in real life, because I do not want to be associated with those views and I think it's terrible that people are taking a useful site that is meant to help people are and are making it a 4chan for interns. This moderation has to step it up or the site is at risk of becoming an echo chamber. Finance is always going to have a conservative views, that's not what I'm against. I'm against the vocal minority spamming troll posts and hateful comments on this website that alienates normal people. I've added a poll as well

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some key points regarding the new moderation efforts to address the issues you've raised:

  1. Anonymity Restrictions:

    • For flagged topics, anonymous comments are no longer allowed. This measure aims to make users more careful with their wording and reduce rude/aggressive posts.
  2. Off-Topic Forum Restrictions:

    • Posting to the Off-Topic forum now requires a certain type of profile. This change is intended to limit members who tend to debate politics and/or are the most extreme.
    • New members cannot post to the Off-Topic forum until they earn a certain number of bananas, which helps discourage troll users.
  3. Adjustments to Silver Bananas:

    • The value of silver bananas from off-topic discussions will be adjusted down significantly. This helps identify users who are collecting silver bananas from career advice rather than off-topic debates.
  4. General Moderation Philosophy:

    • The goal is to create a more thoughtful and respectful environment by reducing broad anonymity and emphasizing the quality of discourse.

These measures are part of ongoing efforts to improve the community and ensure that discussions remain professional and constructive. If you have further concerns or suggestions, participating in the forum discussions or reaching out to the moderators can help shape future updates.
