Just moved to the city and currently have an out-of-state ID. Is there any reason to get a NY state license if I don't intend to drive? Figure if there are no benefits, then I won't waste the money or time. Additionally, any opinions on the IDNYC Card? Seems like it gives discounts at places and is free.

The illegals don’t need it and get everything so you should be fine
As someone who grew up in the NYC area, the amount of obvious illegal immigrants you see roaming the streets nowadays is crazy vs. just 10 years ago. It's sad to see little kids tagging along with their mother selling candy bars in the subway when you know they belong in school...
OP, doesn't really matter outside of a few discounts that NYC ID holders get at places like the Met Museum. Never seen it really being an issue for transplants.
The whole city is shockingly different from the pre-covid era, and not for the better...
