Do you bring a backpack or a briefcase to work? Whats your EDC?
Not sure if I'd come off as a hardo if I bought a briefcase at the firm that just gave me an offer. Culture seems more relaxed and I assume they expect the new people coming in to buy into that. Can a briefcase be relaxed?
Also curious as to what everybody's general daily carry items are.
Side note: looking to buy a backpack right now for the gym because my old 10 dollar one that I bought in college is falling apart. So if anybodys gotta solid rec for gym backpacks thats durable and won't make me look like I'm trying to camp out on the beaches of Normandy for 10 weeks let me know.
What do you carry that you need a briefcase for? Phone, keys, wallet, work badge, gym clothes if you want to go straight after. Think a backpack is fine but most people (guys) don't bring a bag and just have the above things in their pocket
In my mind it would be for a laptop and iPad, notebook or whatever. I guess I wouldn't need the laptop most days though so yeah you could just show up with phone in pocket and clothes in car.
Oh yeah if you're driving you can def leave the clothes in the car. Don't need a laptop or even really an iPad. The notebook can stay at work too
Genuine question, who is carrying briefcases still? Laptop bag that's got some design to it sure, but I can't remember the last time I saw a briefcase in use unironically. It's a shame because I did like them growing up, I remember for one year in school instead of a folder thing I used one. Maybe it's because I'm mostly dealing with tech people now who will sometimes hop on zooms in their tank top (obviously it's been remote for a while) so potential sampling bias, but even when I was in a more office-culture role in a different sector I still never saw one.
depends on what you mean by briefcase. if you mean a hard samsonite briefcase like the one in dumb and dumber then It's probably just lawyers, but if you mean something like the bag below, then I'd say a lot of people.

Bro you used a briefcase in school 💀
It was like middle school, if that's the cringiest thing I did back then I consider it an absolute win.
don't need a briefcase (though if you just mean a leather bag then maybe you do), but if you're expected to bring your laptop to and from work I would get a nice satchel/bag.
Just look at what everybody else does at your firm the first day and go with that.
Yeah thats exactly what I was trying to say. Couldn't think of what you would call that bag/satchel thing and figured its sort of a soft briefcase
Anyone here part of duffel bag nation?
Of course
Yes but really only use it for shoes + clothes. If OP needs to commute with laptop I would recommend a backpack or satchel
