You work in finance. Probably in high finance (ie. IB/HF/PE, fuck off if you are in VC or S&T). You are very prestigious. You are from a superior breed and sit on the top of the mating market. Thus, you are either married or soon to be married.
Having a wife is nice, but she will get old and lose value on the mating market. The situation is quite different for men : women tend to prefer dating older men, thus the older men get, the larger the female mating pool becomes. Furthermore, females are also attracted by men with high earnings, thus further increasing high finance men's value on the market as time goes by.
Despite all that, you don't want to divorce your wife once she gets old and unattractive (like over 35 yo). Even if she's not in her prime anymore and you can now shag any >8/10 girl in her 20s you want, divorce is bad. First, it's very expensive, and you don't want to waste money on such trivial paperwork, especially if it enriches lower class lawyers. Second, it's unprestigious. Third, it will f*** up your family, and you don't want your kids to be f***ed up. So you stay with your wife.
However, you still want to capitalize on the very high value you have on the mating market. So you decide to get a girlfriend and a mistress on the side, both 15 years younger than your wife.
Your girlfriend is smart, fun and hot. You do a lot of things together (week-ends, trips, restaurants, etc.). Your mistress is just hot and your only see her occasionally for sex (like 2 or 3 times a day).
Your girlfriend knows about your wife but doesn't know about you having a mistress. Your mistress knows about both your wife and your girlfriend. You have made sure that your wife will never know about your girlfriend's and mistress' existences.
Once your girlfriend and your mistress have become too old (>30 yo, hey they ain't your wife and your value on the mating market has kept increasing so you can have even higher standards), you dump them and get new ones. Your wife still don't know about it.
