Does an analyst take orders from other MDs from different departments within a global firm?
If a bank has 500 different MDs. And you are a Analyst working under one department (Lets say Asset Management). And then a random MD from a different department (Lets say Investment Banking Division) emails you one day and tells you to do something for him. Do you, as the Asset Management analyst have to do what the IBD MD tells you?
If you ignore the IBD MD's email, can they report you to the HR department? Also, can the Analyst also report the IBD MD for overstepping his power by asking you to do something?
What was the MD's request?
Is this a common occurrence?
You should reply to the MD that they sent you an email by mistake (happens sometimes across departments). Unless your MD is aware and in agreement, you have absolutely zero business handling requests for people outside of your department
Bingo.
There’s a chain of command.
Outsiders wanting to give you work need to talk to your boss about it first.
If your boss is any good, he will never let his subordinates get poached like that.
Every minute you’re working for someone else is a minute you’re not working for the person in charge of your future at that firm.
You've obviously never worked in a Matrix style organization.
Only read about them. Always sounded as if it was scheme cooked up by academics and others in soft jobs.
I’m more familiar with military and investments. Where there’s accountability.
