Drinking wine before interview?

When I have meet ups with people, I’m very authentic and people always want to work with me (hence all these interviews from networking). But when it comes to actual interview, I’m always very mechanical.
In college, I drank wine before an interview to become a research assistant, and I got the academic role out of 18 other students. Mind you - I only prepared 15 min for this interview. And I connected with the researcher very well.

so you think I should drink some wine before these interviews so I’m more talkative and more natural?

You are receiving some horrific advice in this thread.

If you really want a chance at a career and making an impact in a position - not just another job - then you should always seek to represent your authentic self, not the tipsy version of yourself.

If you feel like you can't do this and alcohol helps you behave in social situations, then I would advise you to consider if this is something you should discuss with a mental health professional and address any underlying issues that drive this. You'll never be truly happy - in work or life - until you get to the root cause of this.

Good luck.

Don't think there's anything wrong with a very small amount - like half a glass. That's not even tipsy, if you need just something to take the edge off that's fine. I know plenty of people that have a beer before interviews for the same reason

Also the reply above - not being yourself in an interview is one thing, but interviews are a nervous situation for everyone... mental health professional for mild interview nerves, seriously? if something like a small amount of alcohol makes the difference, go for it

Paging WolfofWSO

If you think I’d take any sober candidate seriously, you’re mistaken. Believe me. The most prestigious candidates are pulling up after dropping heavy doses of ludes while still interviewing like a rockstar. Zips these days think they are hot sht after taking fentanyl, aka fake coke!!!

Take your wine sipping to Mutual of Omaha. You’re not cut for Wall Street.

You'll get into the habit of drinking alcohol every time when you have something important in your professional life, which could happen 3/4 days every week considering it's a stressful job. Down the road, you will wake up in some years and ask yourself why you're an alcoholic.

So, to get to the point, don't use external substances to accomplish things in life because that's why some people get "addicted" to Adderall, alcohol, marihuana, etc. It isn't because those are addictive per se, instead it's because the person they become when they take those substances it's way better than the one which they are when sober. It does more harm than good (financially, relationships, thougths, etc.).

Embrace yourself and change from within.

I agree with you. But what's even more terrifying on here is how many of these moronic peers are saying "go ahead, its OK". That is horrible advice. Exactly how many idiot alcoholics are in this thread???

You just discovered functioning alcoholism. congrats man. Seriously though, depending on booze to calm your anxiety/nerves is a one way ticket to be an alcoholic
