Drones?
Hi all!
Had a housewarming party recently, couple of old friends brought some gifts. You can imagine my surprise when I opened one from a longtime friend of mine to find a DJI Mini 4 Pro Drone. Having never owned or operated one before, I wondered if I was the correct recipient but he stressed that he knew me well and I'd learn to love it.
That was about two weeks ago and I'm slowly realizing all the things I can do with this. I love outdoorsy stuff like no other, so I'm constantly trying to think of stuff it can aid me with and figured there'd probably be a good number of you on here who own something similar. Guess this is kind of a place to see if anyone else is into the hobby and anything they've learned.
From personal experience, the thing is awesome. I took it out of the box and didn't want to fly it for like six days, thought I'd crash it immediately. Turns out it's impossible - the thing is literally idiot-proof and has more sensors than anything I know. Have it set to block anything within a 5m radius, so I couldn't crash it if I tried.
Any fellow owners out there? Been trying to research rules as well; ATX is fairly drone-friendly but I guess there's a whole bunch of etiquette shit as well. Definitely was a hit with the neighbors. First flight brought out all the HOA Karens who saw it in the air, then quickly realized it was pretty cool and I let 'em fly it. Community bonding or something, I guess.
That's all - figured I'd ask! Hope you all enjoy your day. Cheers.
People on this forum go outside?
XD
Ha! Now I can just send the drone to do my bidding outside from now on... no need!
Yes, most people are still sleeping on drone technology; they don't realize how capable relatively cheap consumer drones have gotten. Unless their use is smothered by regulations, drones are going to be used for tons of different tasks in the not-to-distant future.
Already changing warfare right now
Yeah its really crazy. I went into spec ops training in 2001 and the warfare versus today's standards was ancient. As far as gathering intel and recon, it has just changed drastically with technology.
Oh I bet, even with the small communication stuff I bet it’s changed a lot
looking more and more like that Advanced Warfare Call of Duty with all the drones and crazy technology
Agree. If one can get over the initial barrier of entry cost, it's genuinely wild what the thing can do. Flew it like a mile away from my house yesterday towards the river and captured some great images in crystal 4K 60FPS quality. The fact we have a consumer product offered to us of that caliber is wild now. Although I've just technically learned I can't do that and have to keep the thing in my line of site... oh well.
Surfing with drones is awesome if you have the chance.
