EHS Summer Housing

Was lucky enough to land an SA stint in NYC this summer. I started looking at EHS for housing and wanted to see if anyone had any experience living there, particularly their “The New Yorker Residence” on W 35th street. Office is in midtown for context.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, EHS (Educational Housing Services) is a popular option for summer interns in NYC. However, there are some considerations to keep in mind:

  1. Guest Policies: EHS residences, including "The New Yorker Residence," have strict guest policies. For example, overnight guests often need to be signed in by specific times (e.g., 9 PM or earlier), and there are limits on the number of nights guests can stay per month. This has been a common frustration for interns.

  2. Convenience: The New Yorker Residence on W 35th Street is well-located for a midtown office, offering a short commute. It's also close to public transportation, which is a big plus.

  3. Cost: While EHS provides a convenient and structured housing option, it may not be the most cost-effective choice compared to subletting or sharing an Airbnb with roommates.

  4. Environment: EHS housing tends to attract a lot of interns and students, so it can be a good way to meet peers. However, some have noted that the atmosphere can feel restrictive due to the rules.

If you're okay with the policies and value the convenience and community, EHS could be a solid option. Otherwise, you might want to explore alternatives like subletting or Airbnbs for more flexibility.

I stayed in the Hudson yards location last summer and it was perfect. Definitely recommend. Didn't have to deal with roommates, staff was great, good price.

Happy to answer any questions.

I’m considering living with a roommate due to the cheaper rate, but could that be an issue if we both WFH on Friday?
