Engagement Rings NYC - No Clue

Know this topic has been touched on in the forums before; however, seemed to be geared more toward ppl who had any clue whatsoever about diamonds/rings and I have zero.  Know that I want a lab-grown diamond and know what cut, but not even sure what to look for in terms of carat, where to find best deal, what I should be paying, and any other details I'm not aware I should be considering.

Probably want to spend btwn $5-$10k.  My girlfriend won't ask/care what the ring costs, and we haven't discussed or negotiated the ring beforehand.  Picked up on what cut she likes from a convo I overheard w/ her sister and know what type of gold she likes for the band.

Any suggestions on what I should be looking at carat-wise in that price range?  Should I try to navigate the diamond district or too difficult for someone who knows nothing about diamonds?  Is price range realistic for a nice carat?  Any pointers appreciated - not really sure where to start on my own.

Always let her pick out the ring. Have heard many stories of people asking the best friend or sister for advice and then it ends up being bad advice

sorry I don’t have more helpful info for lab grown diamonds - but props for finding a girl who is okay with lab grown haha

My friend does engagement rings in NYC. He is pretty cool. McKinsey/HBS alumni. I think his office is on 57th/Madison. Here is the site:
