Everything in life starts to become boring

I don't know why I'm experiencing this but it's kinda like that.

Work is fine, nice gig on the buyside, but outside of work life is quite stale. 

Sleep well, eat well.

My brain doesn't release the 'happy' hormones when I get girls anymore, video games ain't fun anymore, movies/TV shows aren't even interesting, workout is okay - maybe I still like the cold shower post workout because I feel fresh - but that's about it. 

I still have hobbies, hopping on a plane and spend a couple hours on recreational airzone. Or hiking. Or stargazing.

I'm kinda like a robot now, emotionless. Thinking of doing something to spike my adrenaline, can't figure out yet. I'm in a weird state. I don't have a calling in life, I'm wondering how to find one?

This sounds like a depression. You can be depressed when everything in life is objectively good. Go and see a therapist—helped change my life when I wasn’t feeling anything.

 

stoicism as a tool is good. however, look at all the gurus pushing stoicism... ryan holiday and tim ferret?

Start lifting and ski in the winter. No adrenaline rush is comparable to yeeting a 15 foot cliff into a foot of pow… except maybe a 20 or 30 foot cliff.. but haven’t got there yet.. one day.

Welcome to the 30s😅 I kind of feel the same way. I am a woman though. Always been like this. After high school I moved to Latin America to experience something different. Loved it. Moved back to Mèxico as an exchange student. Loved it. Moved to Argentina as an intern. Had a fiance there who I had to fight a huge bureaucracy to get to my country. I studied a bachelor, then a Master in a field that required skills I did not have, so I flunk, tried again and fought to get my diploma. I knew different languages that helped me get my first job.I loved challenges. I took a year of psychology. I got a new job. My fiance left, my parent died and for 2 years now, my life is normal. I have a great man, a nice house and the same safe job. But I am bored! Is this really it? I struggle so much with this huge feeling of empty. Same thing, over and over. I don’t care about making much money if I have no time to spend them. I want money to feel free. I feel trapped in this regular life at times, but I understand that this is me. I see my diary from when I was a teenager, and all it says is how bored I am….🙈 So, you are not alone. It helps to be around familt though

I think for the most part, everyone has this thought at some point or the other. I know I certainly did - “life is boring, and what’s there to look forward to?” 
 

The truth of the matter is that you need to figure out what your purpose is - and then exclusively focus on that. What is really your main goal in life? Subtract everything going on currently and forecast your life out in an infinite time horizon. What is it that you hope to accomplish? Is it generating hundreds of millions of dollars for yourself? Is it creating a legacy that will be recognized by all? Is it doing whatever you can to help those around you? Sit and think. 
 

New hobbies and external “things” will keep your mind on a hamster wheel which will continue to perpetuate the thoughts you currently have. I am an advocate for working out and martial arts, but while these things can help to improve quality of life, they are a temporary fix and do not address the root of the problem (figuring out your purpose). 
 

I highly recommend writing down your thoughts and meditation - I’ve personally seen the biggest progression in my life from doing both. 

 

The problem with this is that it is nearly impossible for the vast majority of people to leave a legacy or make money like that. Sure, it is great for the few but there doesn’t seem to be any need to remake the wheel.

Start a family, join a community, etc. to find meaning. Our grandparents generation was not like ours.

 

I recommend getting an indoor cycling trainer. You can get a smart bike (Wahoo Kickr bike) or a smart trainer if you already have a road bike. The training sessions are INSANE - also, the races on Zwift are REALLY INSANE. My HR on the bike is as high as running, but cycling is much safer and low impact.

Today I did a 1hr session on Zwift and averaged 168bpm HR and 175bpm max at an average of 261W avg power.

I felt like quitting the whole time, but it just makes you feel more ALIVE. The goal was 1hr and I burned 929 calories and felt great! Highly recommended.

There is Peloton too, but I think Peloton isn’t as strong of a training machine as having a smart trainer or bike and being able to train on Zwift and Zwift races. Cheers.

yeah I’m debating blocking this forum off for good. As a dude I’m my young 20s I kind of look up to these people here and they have some of the most depressing takes on life. Seems to be a trend lately.

 

We are in depressing times. Not only are many of us experiencing real problems for the first time ever (that many of us have been shielded from due to first world privilege), but there is also a pervasive demoralization effort coming from the media where they WANT you to be depressed, afraid, and uncomfortable (because, to give them the MOST charitable motivation, it gives them clicks).

We have to fight it because that's how they want us to feel.  The best solution is friends. Many other feel the same way and if I was still up in NYC I'd offer to go hang out.

 

It took me DECADES to get over what you are feeling.  

You need to speak with someone.  Professional, close friend, Priest, Shrink, spouse, Parents...someone.

I finally opened up to my wife (26 years) about 4 years ago and I let it out.  All out.  Everything I was feeling, fears, the numbness that daily life brings, the lack of vision, the lack of enjoyment in ANYTHING.  Fear of dying and so on...

It helps.  It really does. The word is in a state of madness right now.  This madness is going to be the tipping point for a LOT of people.  Do not let "them" win.

Others have mentioned meditation.  Do not self medicate.  I have lost too many friends this way.

Smile.  Take a walk.  Sit by the ocean.  But most importantly...be grateful and humble.

2: I think that getting desensitized to dopamine comes with getting older. As you get older you start to get less satisfaction from physical pleasures and more pleasure from intangible achievements: things like changes you've led on the job, families you've built, art you have completed, friendships and organizations you have led. It is natural and it's just you changing from being a grunt to being a leader.

I don't get the same kind of "enjoyment" from things either. I don't enjoy video games anymore (unless I'm playing with friends, then I enjoy it).  I don't get the same kind of enjoyment from sex or alcohol anymore.  BUT I get a nice warm and fuzzy from a good evening playing with family, enjoying positive body changes from my new aggressive workout music (I like to put on one of the "epic and motivational" playlists to listen to on Youtube) and the feeling of haven given it my all, or from the painting hobby I've taken up when I can look at a completed figure/Statue (I do busts, small statues, minis, etc.) and seeing how far I've come over my previous level.

take triple a dose of LSD that you've done before

try running home before it kicks in

there's your adrenaline rush

also to B4SH could not fucking agree more bro, ryan holiday and tim ferriss are somewhat interesting reads, and I like some of the stoic texts, but I'd much rather use an icepick soaked in cobra venom to give myself a catheter than have a beer with those limp dicks. we get it, you've got your life arranged perfectly...you think, but you're not interesting. gotta have balance
