Ex-Moelis Banker Kaye Enters Into Plea Deal After Punching Woman

Former Moelis & Co. senior banker Jonathan Kaye pleaded guilty to six misdemeanor charges after punching a woman in the face last year and shoving another to the ground — a moment captured in a viral video — but will get his criminal case downgraded if he fulfills certain conditions.

Under his plea deal, the charges — which included misdemeanor assault — will be turned into a violation rather than a crime, wiping his record clean, if Kaye completes 25 days of community service as well as three anger management sessions and pays restitution of as much as $50,000 to the two victims. He agreed to the requirements in entering his plea Friday in New York state court in Brooklyn.

Seems like a good deal, assuming each can barely earn $25,000 annually lmao.

No permanent record and a small tip for the antisemites -- can't wait to see him get started at R&Co.

Bloomberg's reporting on this is very biased and, like the first inaccurate reports, makes it sound like he just punched someone minding their own business

If you're not familiar, this article will get you up to speed on what really happened: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14447881/millionaire-banker-jonathan-kaye-assault-viral-video-brooklyn-no-conviction-anti-semitism.html

This isn't going to stop until more people aren't going to just say "I'm going to mind my own business here". I support Kaye. It should be a civic duty to push back on people like this who are out looking for trouble. That's what would happen in Japan or any other civilized country with low crime and a high trust society. Enough of "I'm an insane lunatic so I can do whatever I want and scream discrimination later". No wonder why people are moving to Miami and Texas. I love NYC but not like this.

Dude, supporting a guy who lacks impulse control and would deck a person in the street does not make much sense.  Adults need to act like adults.

He is supporting a man who was physically threatened by antisemitic protestors that surrounded him and threw a drink in his face (assault in the eyes of NY State/City Law), and then tried to stab him outside his arraignment hearing. There is a massive gulf between “impulse control,” and self defense - if I am a well to do person economically and two men (or women) try to mug me, am I a recklessly violent individual for attempting to defend myself?

What happened to the gifs?  This site has a lot of bugs.  I can no longer comment from my phone but I can comment from my laptop.

Right.  Because there aren't any lunatics in Florida or Texas...

Two things to note.  First off, this guy should be held to a higher standard in the court of public opinion.  His judgement is supposed to be sounder, that's why he's making a lot of money in banking.  How to fuck does anyone justify pay in finance if the expectation is that they should say and do and act like another other yahoo on the street?

Second, while the extenuating circumstances around the incident are obviously less bad than "rich guy punches people in the face," the fact that he's pleading guilty is a pretty good sign that his actions were worse than his "victims" (and I use the scare quotes because they're victims of their own actions).
