Excited For Taxes This Year?
How are you guys filing your taxes this year? (H&R, TurboTax, professional CPA)?
I'm still in Uni thinking of a tax preparing career. I am wondering how you guys go about tax season?

Last year I “went about” by remitting a large payment to the US Treasury, so to answer your question I am ecstatic.

I’m going to owe a few thousand, maybe more, lots of forms this year too. Gets worse every year.
Not at all. My cash vs. reported income is like 1:11 this year.
excellent, do you have offsets from real estate (depreciation, interest expense) or do you have loss carry forwards?
Since a good portion of people are in NYC it's not gonna be a good year.
I try to not support H&R Block, TurboTax, or other slimy companies that actively lobby against a simpler tax code. But I'm sure plenty of CPAs belong to professional groups who do the same thing, so my outrage probably shouldn't be limited to the big tax prep companies.
I always use a CPA. Not happy though, I'm a prop trader on 1090 and I'm gonna end up paying a dick ton of money.
In the same boat as ya'll.....this year is going to suck.
Last year our CPA estimated we'd be paying 2-3k more this year after tax reform.
I always get destroyed on taxes because I have ops in Canada and the US. I have a good firm now that I use to deal with everything but the bill associated with it just sucks because of all the cross border issues. Literally burned most of last week working with the accountants and relevant port cos to optimize, total time burn...
I'm a TurboTax man as it is a really intuitive program. Even so, it's still a puzzle. Our tax code is obscenely complicated.
Turbotax fo sho. Started a business this year though so I'll have to see how well it fares with that

Usually an H&R Block kind of guy but the idea of getting a personal CPA does sound intriguing.
Where there are two CPAs there are three opinions.
Unless you have a particularly complicated tax return, I wouldn't bother. If you're going to use a CPA because of a complicated return, it might make sense to use a CPA who specializes in the industry in which your, say, business operates. I took my home building (my side hustle) tax return to a generic tax-preparing CPA several years ago and he was just straight-up wrong in his analysis.
I really appreciate the heads up! I will keep that in mind as I move forward with this tax season.

Is there any decent CPA that advise how to lower taxes?(beside easy standard 401k, ira, etc)
For the most part as long as you’re being paid as an employee the options are rather limited.
Having a side business or an investment property to run some expenses through can help.
Why would I be excited about taxes?
I sent them like 10k extra this year - US treasury can eat a dick.
