Eh. Growing up, it was my favorite place and definitely one of the best burgers in Manhattan, the best on the Upper East Side, but it has declined significantly.

As with every business that goes through this, the PE deal that tried to make them a big chain is when they fell off. The burger is meh and the service is atrocious. When you consider the wait, cost, and dining experience, you're probably better off going to the janky white castle in East Harlem for an authentic NY experience with a tasty burger.

Shake Shack at Madison Square Park

I used to work at the Credit Suisse building on MSP sometimes and would always see a long line at Shake Shack and never went to that location, but have been to the UES location and it was really good and also have been to the Glendale, CA spot. All were very good. I see now Shake Shack has a ton of locations in NYC.

Best burgers in the city I can think of:

Non casual (my rank) 1. 4 Charles 2. Raoul’s 3. Minetta Tavern 4. Au Cheval (4 Charles less talented brother) 5. American Bar

Casual (no order) 1. Corner Bistro 2. Revelie Luncheonette (Raoul’s casual lunch spot) 3. David’s Cafe 4. Hamburger America 5. 7th Street 6. Black Burger 7. Bubby’ssome casual burger spots rank higher than

American Bar and Au Cheval imo

Bonus: sometimes a burger from McDicks just hits right

For a pricier/nicer burger, Minetta Tavern. Worth the hype, just a phenomenal burger, haven't had a burger better yet. Au Cheval also a good option in this range.

For cheaper/fast food style burger, 100% 7th Street Burger. I'm a sucker for smashburgers and whenever I'm craving a greasy classic American smashed cheeseburger, 7th Street always hits the spot but not the wallet. Quality does sometimes vary by location, I swear by the one in East Village though.

Place I've been meaning to try is Hamburger America. Recently opened by George Motz (burger expert/goat, has great content on YouTube, should def check him out) and this place does the Oklahoma style burger which is just a smashburger but with onions smashed in with the patty, sounds fire and heard it's worth the hype too.
