Feasibility of Remote Work for an Acquisitions Officer at a Family Office

Hi all, could use some advice. Last year during COVID I took an Acquisitions role for a small , but active, family office since my role at the time was going nowhere. It's a great opportunity, I am getting better experience than before, better comp, etc. I'm approaching my 1 year mark and already have 2 deals under my belt.

The problem is that our office is in the suburbs about 1-1.5 hours from the city I was living in. I thought it would be time for me to embrace the suburban life (the COVID lockdown at the time also helped make the decision), but to be completely honest I am hating it. I am 30 years old, single, and want to move back into the city. I think about this almost every day.

I've only been with this group a year, and this is my FOURTH firm out of college - so I definitely do not want to leave the group, despite there being a lot of openings in my city. However, the whole company is literally 4 people, including me and a part-time accountant. One of us is usually on the road so there is usually just 2 people in the office at any given time.

I really want to broach this subject to the principal and ask if he would mind if I come in one day a week, enabling me to move back to the city and work remotely from a home office. I am fairly certain that they view me as a good hire and I am adding a lot of value to the firm, so I am not afraid to make this request. I am just wondering if anyone has found themselves in a similar situation and has any advice on how to further support my request.

You're thinking about asking, when you should really be telling them that you're going to WFH and will come into the office as needed. Asking for anything is setting yourself up for a negative response. Take control and just do it.
