Fed Up

Has anyone seen this on Prime Video? Such an incredible and eye opening documentary on the state of the nation's health. What do you think makes someone get to the point where they can barely move because they are so overweight? Lack of discipline? Sheer stupidity? Laziness? It's just baffling.

The way everyone has different hobbies (fashion, guns, travel, etc.), everyone has different struggles with vices. I know a guy who has slept with 400-500 other guys (he's gay). I know a guy who drinks at nearly every meal and all the time. I know a guy who is married with 2 kids and works 80 hours/week. My half-brother's dad committed suicide after a long bought with depression. Food addiction is one of those struggles that some people have. It's hard to understand unless it's your struggle.

Obesity related deaths kill 300,000+ people per year while mass shootings kill 150 at most. Which one does the media cover 24/7? Why is this?

Because one of them is a crime in which one criminal inflicts death upon innocent victims in one huge burst of violence, and the other is one in which individuals do themselves in over a long period of time.

And the media hardly ignores the obesity epidemic. But being self-inflicted, it's harder to summon moral outrage. I don't doubt food addiction is a real struggle for people (just like living in a food desert, etc) but at the end of the day it's harder to sympathize with someone eating themselves to death in a totally preventable manner, rather than some kid who was attending school and was killed in a totally preventable manner.
