Fintech: Which transfer/FX converter website or app do you use?
Curious what the frequently traveling monkey uses for converting or transferring money (in)to a different currency. I have heard good stories about Transferwise, and within Europe N26 and Revolut.
Transferwise has the most currencies and allows you to hold all these currencies, but is also more expensive. N26 uses the services of Transferwise and offers a few extra's, such as a debit card (at a price though and I believe Transferwise is getting a banking license as well). Revolut is the cheapest, but you can't hold an USD account, only EUR or GBP. You can pay/tranfer in USD though, but that is done (for free) at the current FX.
Somebody with experiences with these services or an other (better) provider?
Revolut is the best when it works, by far. 0 transaction fee outside weekends (you get interbank rate, basically same as when i trade FX for my book in the office), lots of other perks to easily transfer money to friends / split bills. One time my sister lost her main CC in some 3rd world country. I simply sent her 1000 through revolut, instantaneous, no hassle, would have been a nightmare to try to do anything else
The only downside is that non premium customer service is kind of lacking / quite slow, and sometimes their payment processor doesnt work so you can't full rely on it 100%, you always need backup in case.
I usually use transferwise . It's very dependable.
