Following up network

Hey all, I was just wondering if I am planning on applying for 2027 summer internships how should I go about networking calls. I know to do the original network call but then do you try to keep in touch and do calls here or there? Not really sure how it works

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tips on how to keep in touch with your network after the initial call:

  1. Initial Call:

    • Make a good impression by being prepared and professional.
    • Ask for advice and insights about the industry and their career path.
    • Request referrals to other professionals in the field.
  2. Follow-Up:

    • Send a thank-you email within 24 hours of the call.
    • Mention something specific you discussed to personalize the message.
  3. Periodic Updates:

    • Keep in touch by sending periodic updates about your progress and achievements.
    • Aim to reach out every few months with a brief email update.
    • Share relevant articles or industry news that might interest them.
  4. Second Call:

    • Schedule a follow-up call after a few months, especially if you have significant updates or questions.
    • Use this opportunity to deepen the relationship and ask for further advice.
  5. In-Person Meetings:

    • If possible, arrange for coffee or lunch meetings, especially if you are in the same city.
    • Face-to-face interactions can strengthen your connection.
  6. Be Genuine:

    • Show genuine interest in their work and insights.
    • Avoid making every interaction about asking for favors; build a real relationship.
  7. Networking Events:

    • Attend industry events, conferences, or webinars where you might meet them in person.
    • Use these opportunities to reconnect and expand your network further.

By following these steps, you can maintain and strengthen your network effectively over time.
