Hello everyone. In the last part of this guide we went over how to apply the quiz and recall method to your studying, specifically to vocab-based questions and quantitative problems.
Step Three: Two Tools to Optimize Your Studying
Now we’re going to go over two tools I use to best optimize my studying, Quizlet and the Momentum Chrome extension.
Quizlet
Remember how in the last step I recommended you use flashcards for your vocab terms? Do you also remember how I noted an exam could be composed of hundreds of flashcards and you don’t want to be carrying those around? Well here is the solution to that problem, Quizlet.
Quizlet is a website that allows you to make e-flashcards that can be accessed from anywhere at any time. I’m sure there are similar websites to this but Quizlet offers every tool I need, and is free so it wins my recommendation.
How to Best Utilize Quizlet
First and foremost you’re going to want to populate your quizlet set with the terms from your chapter or exam (you can later group sets of chapters into the combined exam if you wish). This is very easy if you have an e-Textbook as you’ll be able to just copy and paste. However if not, you’ll just have to type it yourself.
I typically put the “prompt” (so either term or question) on the definition side, and the answer on the term side. You’ll see why in a moment.
Here’s where the magic happens. After you have your all your flashcards assembled, now go to the “Learn” section in your set and you know have a quiz and recall quiz for your vocab terms! Quizlet will prompt you with the term or question, and you must type in your answer with no help. The only problem is if you don’t type it verbatim, Quizlet will say you got it wrong, but there’s a button to click to override this if you got it correct.
Now simply keep going through the “Learn” section until you get 100% correct, and you’ll know you’re ready for the exam.
Momentum Chrome Extension
The second tool I’ll recommend is less related to actual studying, and more so general productivity.
Momentum is a Google Chrome Extension that replaces your home-screen in Chrome with the Momentum home page. I’d download Momentum simply for the nice wallpapers it offers, but it also offers useful tools like a to-do list, and a space to put the task you are most focused on for the day.
Staying on top of your responsibilities for different classes is key, as every point counts. You never want to miss an assignment deadline, no matter how small the assignment. Momentum has helped me stay on track with my assignments and it can help you too.

Yep. Some of my teachers have had their online tests verbatim on quizlet. Ironically the site crashed during finals week this year.
not necessarily disagreeing but for me physically writing the terms on flashcards makes all the difference. or sometimes ill even just grab a sheet of paper and quiz and recall myself, writing down my answers on the paper. something about writing makes it stick so much more- ill even be able to remember the definitions/significant components verbatim.
I am the same way. I always read prior to class and took as many notes/flash cards as possible. I would then cycle through them.
