Fraternity Life in Finance

Well. It's that time again. Time to talk about college. I was hoping to post this up Friday night when half of you are drunk and will shoot off some good responses, but your sober selves will do.

This is a much needed discussion topic that I've yet to find so we're talking about Ivy finance schools: Wharton/Harvard/Yale/Stanford.

Fraternity Life at a Target school, what school did/do you go to and how's the Greek System there? I'm seeking a school with a strong Greek system, not some bullshit professional fraternity nonsense though.

(if you're not from a target that's cool man, still leave a comment because if you're on WSO you're doing something right)

How do you balance intense schedules, internships, and becoming an active at a fraternity there?

Here, we'll set it up like this:

Ahhhh shit.

From what I'm hearing Targets are horrible when it comes to the Greek system.

Harvard doesn't have real fraternities. It does have final clubs.

Greek life is very important to at least some of the Ivies (Dartmouth, UPenn, etc.). I had a whole lot of fun at ADPhi and DKE when I visited friends at Yale way back in the day.

It just doesn't exist at some of them. The ones that don't have a true Greek system generally have some sort of stand-in for it (final clubs at Harvard and eating clubs at Princeton).

SB to West.

OP sounds like a guy I would black ball without hesitation.

The ivy league schools are all different. You won't find anything at the ivies close to resembling the greek life at large state schools.

When I am looking at resumes and I see that someone has listed their fraternity/sorority, one that I recognize, I immediately assume that they at least probably aren't socially awkward as fuck. Thankfully, the greek system weeds out those that aren't. I don't want to work with someone who has 3 business fraternities, 4 clubs, and the marching band listed on their resume. I've run across too many of these people and they all suck.

Don't be stupid. I haven't said an ounce about putting my fraternity on my resume and nor would I. Instead of running that keyboard, how about you simply answer the questions given?

Why wouldn't you?

I'm assuming you would have held an exec position (it's not like they're hard to come by) and it's a terrific networking tool. There is absolutely zero point to greek life after graduation EXCEPT FOR networking.

is that a good thing...? throw black?

I am indeed 'black' (in a general sense) if that is the question. I don't comprehend what you meant though by "throw black on the OP".

adapt or die:

I'd def throw black on the OP

hahaha I'm pretty sure he meant blacklist you

All we need to do is show a little class, a little sophistication, and we’re in like a dirty shirt.

From a crap school, but I was in a fraternity (ZBT). No idea how it will help me in the future, but I did get an internship at a hedge fund last summer partially because of my involvement with Greek life. Also we have a networking event on Wall Street every summer. I went to it sophomore year. It was okay. Mostly guys in Ops. I don't really treat other people differently if I know they're in ZBT from another school. It's not as glamorous as some people think. Mostly guys that get drunk a lot.
