Freshman at Stanford, What should I do this Summer?

I'm no longer in high school (unlike what my username says haha) but I do need advice. I'm at  Stanford and would love to work for a smaller firm of some kind this summer. Any tips on making that happen as a freshman? Thanks!

Lots of start-ups, VC firms, tech-focused PE shops, and tech companies in the valley recruit freshman's for summer roles (especially ones from Stanford or UCB). Really recommend you join the VC club at Stanford and try to network your way into Menlo Park for the summer. Cold emails/coffee chats are a great way to meet professionals in the Bay Area (plus most are super friendly) and it'll increase your chances of getting an internship (if not, it's also a great way to build up connections for sophomore/junior recruiting). Remember to keep your cold emails short and make a strong but good elevator pitch as to why you're interested in working at their firm or industry (once you have the coffee chat).

As much as this may not seem helpful, I actually agree… go have fun your first summer of college. You wouldn’t get a great internship after two semester of college anyway (unless you are a programming legend and get an offer from a huge tech company because you’ve been winning coding competitions since before you started jerking off — I know someone that did this, lol). No, but seriously — have fun, you’re 18 or 19, you know nothing (no offense, just assuming you haven’t taken upper-level crucial classes thus far). This may be the last summer you have to be an idiot, have fun. If you end up getting arrested, just make sure it’s not a felony and you’ll be fine.

Bruh enjoy that summer while you can. You will never get another free summer, ever again

Join a VC club or some other bogus org during the school year to pad resume and “show interest”

I am a freshman at Princeton hoping to get into IB. Since I study CS, I was thinking of getting a SWE internship as tech companies are generally more lenient than banks in recruiting freshmen. Would this experience harm or help my chances in IB recruiting down the line? Thank you.
